She was the mother of Sarah Theresa LeClaire; Angele Zoey Zallie LeClaire; Julia LeClaire; Lillian Lalia Eulalie LeClaire; Louise Susan Plante (LeClaire) and 3 others. She is recorded as living in the Dakota Territory also on December 21, 1886. Her death was at the Cheyenne River Reservation, Carson County in South Dakota in 1894. The Cheyenne River Reservation houses four of the seven Lakota, Teton bands: Minnecojou, Sans Arc, Blackfoot and Two Kettles. There is a marker on the grave-site of Winula [Mary Iron Cedar] in the LaPlante Catholic Cemetery on the Cheyenne River Reservation, Dewey County, South Dakota, on Highway 212 about 18 miles west of where 212 crossed the Missouri River/Oaha Reservoir. The LeCompte Family is responsible for the placement of this marker. Their descendants populate five South Dakota Indian Reservations through their daughters, Julia, Lillian, Sarah, Angele, Louise, Susan, and son Pierre. Seven children were born to this couple they were: Julia (Peter Livermore/Livermont), Lillian/Eulalie ( Louison LeCompte), Pierre/Peter LaClaire, Therese/Sarah (Joseph Valandry), Angele/Zella (William Kinsler/Kenceleur), Henrietta died young, Louise Susan LeClaire (Eloi Plante). They were entitled to land under the Treaty of Prarie du Chien. This circumstance is described in Adreas History of the State of Nebraska, Richardson County: "The treaty setting aside the lands for the half-breeds in Richardson and Nemaha Counties was made between William Clark, Superintendent of Indian Affairs, and Willoughby Morgan, a Colonel of the regular army, with deputations from the Sacs and Foxes, four bands of Sioux, the Medewakantons, Sissetons, Wahpetons, Wahpacootah, Omahas, Iowas, Otoes and Missouris, on July 15, 1830." The LeCompte Catholic Cemetery was first a family cemetery, as Lillian LeClaire LeCompte gave some land to the Rapid City Diocese for a church/cemetery before she died, then it was a Catholic Cemetery, which is now under Lake Oahe, in Carson County, South Dakota. All graves were removed to other sites by the US Army Corp. Of Engineers, at the request of relatives. As of 2015, poverty remains a problem for the displaced populations in the Dakotas, who are still seeking compensation for the loss of the towns submerged under Lake Oahe, and the loss of their traditional ways of life The LaPlante Catholic Cemetery is located on the Cheyenne River Reservation, Dewey County, South Dakota, on Highway 212 about 18 miles west of where 212 crossed the Missouri River/Oaha Reservoir. The Treaty of Fort Laramie of 1868 created the Great Sioux Reservation, a single reservation covering parts of six states, including both of the Dakotas. Subsequent treaties in the 1870s and 1880s broke this reservation up into several smaller reservations. The Cheyenne River Indian Reservation was created in 1889. Chief Sitting Bull lived on the Cheyenne River Reservation. He was fond of the Grand River area which in the 1880s, was the boundary between the Cheyenne River Reservation and the Standing Rock Reservation. In 1890, the United States became very concerned about Chief Sitting Bull who they learned was going to lead an exodus off the Reservation. Several hundred Indians gathered near the Grand River on the Cheyenne River Reservation in December of 1890, preparing to flee the reservation. A force of 39 Indian policemen and four volunteers were sent to chief Sitting Bull's residence near the Grand River on December 16, 1890, to arrest him. Initially, Sitting Bull cooperated but became angry once led out of his residence and noticed around 50 of his soldiers were there to support him. During some point while outside of Chief Sitting Bulls residence, a battle commenced in which the legendary leader was killed. A total of 18 casualties occurred in the battle. Among the killed were Sitting Bull and his son. Sitting Bull's half brother, Spotted Elk, led an exodus of 350 people off the Cheyenne River Reservation to the south. They were captured on December 28, 1890 on the Pine Ridge Reservation, about 30 miles to the east of the settlement of Pine Ridge. Next day they were massacred by over 500 white soldiers, and event known as the Wounded Knee Massacre. Approximately 300 Indians were killed: 90 warriors and 200 women and children, and 50 wounded during the massacre, halting the exodus. Survivors settled on the Pine Ridge Reservation or returned to the Cheyenne River Reservation. Since then, the Cheyenne River Reservation's northern border has changed. It is no longer the Grand River. However, the present day settlements located along the Grand River, are predominantly Algonquian. Beginning in 1948, the US government dammed the Missouri River for electrical power and flood control. The dam project submerged 8% of the remaining reservation land.
