Gilbert, 93 Lifelong Wells County resident Mary J. Gilbert, 93, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christian Care in Bluffton. She had been in ill health for six months. Born June 7, 1903 in Lancaster Twp., Wells County, she was a daughter of James W. and Lena I Carrysot Dowty. She married Paul H. Gilbert on April 6, 1923 in Fort Wayne. He died April 26, 1975. She attended Eagleville one-room school near Murray and graduated from Bluffton High School in 1921. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a former member of Friendly Neighbor's Home Ec Club. She lived for 65 years at the same resident in Rockcreek where she was a homemaker and helped on the family farm. Surviving are four sons, Duane Gilbert of Huntington, Keith Gilbert of Fort Wayne, Gene Gilbert of Uniondale and Lyle Gilbert of Union City, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Ellen) Reff of Bluffton and Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Sheets of Newberry Springs, Calif.; a brother, Hubert Dowty of Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Sorg of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Calling will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chancy Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Otto Dorsch officiating.
