Description	:	Mrs. Mary J. Patterson Mrs. Mary J. Patterson passed away on Monday, July 23, in the home of her daughter, Miss Malowe Patterson, in Gillett Grove township. Her death was due to chronic myocarditis. Funeral services are being conducted this Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Jenkins of the Gillett Grove Methodist church. A short service was held at the residence at two o'clock and at three o'clock a service was held at the Methodist church. Patterson Mrs. Mary J. Patterson passed away on Monday, July 23, in the home of her daughter, Miss Malowe Patterson, in Gillett Grove township. Her death was due to chronic myocarditis. A short service was held at the residence at two o'clock and at three o'clock a service was held at the Methodist church. The body was taken to Maquoketa where burial will be made in the Union cemetery beside the body of her husband. Mary Hiner was born near Richmond, Virginia, eighty-one years ago. When thirteen years of age, she started west in a wagon with her parents. Her father passed away while they were making the journey and she and her mother took a homestead in Clinton county, Iowa. In 1864 she was united in marriage to S. G. Patterson at Clinton, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage she and her husband bought a farm near Ruthven where they lived until thirty-three years ago when they moved to Spencer. They lived near this city for twenty years and then bought a farm at Estherville where they lived until Mr. Patterson died five years ago. Mrs. Patterson became the mother of six children who survive their mother. They are Miss Malowe E. Patterson of Gillett Grove township, G. A. Patterson of Mitchell, S.D., Mrs. R. E. French of Estherville, Mrs. C. L. Dennison, of Wallingford, Mrs. R. E. Mills of Gillett Grove and Eugene Patterson of Dickens. Besides her children, she is survived by a brother, J. A. Hiner, of Mount Vernon, a brother Eugene Hiner, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Hetty Boaden of Chamberlain, S.D. Mrs. Patterson was an enthusiastic Christian. She joined the Methodist church at the age of thirteen years and throughout her life was a faithful member of the church. While living in Spencer she united with the Grace Methodist church.
