Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Church last Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Mass was said by her pastor, Rev. A.L. Lorenz. He peached an eloquent sermond detailing the many virtues of Mrs. Aitchison. Her body ws laid to rest in the Sacred Heart cemetery north of Monticello. The maiden name of Mrs. Aitchison was Mary Jane Burke. she was a daughter of John and Mary (McNamara) Burke and was born at Galena, Illinois, February 16, 1859. When a child she came with her parents to the Temple Hill region near Cascade, where the family home was made for some time. Later her father removed to Cascade. It was in this city that the marriage of the subject of this sketch to William J. Aitchison occurred, October 11, 1892. mr and Mrs Aitchison lived in cascade untill 1900, when they moved to the Aitchison farm on Bowen's Prairie. They lived there until February 22, 1921, when they came to monticello and settled in the home which they now occupy. There were four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Aitchison, Viz: Marguerite, who lives at home, Clare and Henry, who are engaged in operating the home farm in Lovell township, and Mrs. John Miller (Aileen) of anamosa. In addition to her children and husband, Mrs. Aitchison is survived by one brother, William Burke of Cascade, and one sister, Mrs. Peter Koster of Monticello, and six grandchildren. Previous to Mrs. Aitchison's illness, she took a vital interest in the affairs of her church, and served as president of the St. Elizabeth society for a term of two years. She died fortified with the final rites of her church.
