Daughter of William Pedigo and Alatia Elizabeth Beem OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, January 9, 1947 MARY JANE SONES Mary Jane Sones passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Rhodes in El Centro, California, December 25, 1946 at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 27 days. She had been in failing health for some time and has spent the summers with her children, to whom she was devoted, in Iowa; and the winters with her step-son, Charles Sones and family in El Centro. She left here in October, in company with her only living daughter, Mrs. Blance Rhodes, who has been very devoted to her in her declining years. Everything that medical aid, love and affection could do was done to no avail. Her Master called and she was gone. She was the only daughter of William and Alecia Beem Pedigo, who came from Indiana to Iowa in 1868 and made their home in Norwood. She is the last of her immediate family, three brothers, Jesse, John and Richard, having passed on. She was twice married; both husbands, Joseph Gray and Ira Sones, and two children, Arthur Gray and Mrs. Gertrude Schreiber preceding her in death. She leaves four children, Roy E. Gray and Donald Sones, of Lucas, Mrs. Blanche Rhodes and Harry Sones and a step-son, Charles Sones, of El Centro, California. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends. She was converted in early life and ever remained true to her profession. She was of a deeply religious nature. She was a great lover of music and was a talented musician of her day, loved by all who knew her. Funeral services were conducted by Elder Hampton White and Rev. Mildred Baker on Dec. 30, 1946 at the Norwood Church. Music was furnished by the Blackwood Brothers quartet. The pallbearers were William Goeddes, Chester Eubanks, Carl Howell, Velda Schilling, Clarence Chandler and John Primm. Interment was in the Fletcher cemetery at Norwood, Iowa.
