Hillary Mourns Death Aged Mother - - - Mrs. S. A. Sage Passed Away Following Prolonged Illness - - - Mrs. S. A. Sage passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Hillary on Thursday afternoon, February 21. She had been in failing health for the past year and three weeks ago suffered a stroke and had been bedfast since that time. Mary J. Williams was born at Chandlerville, Ill., June 15, 1851, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Hillary, in Spirit Lake, February 21, 1935, at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 6 days. In August, 1877, she was united in marriage with Spencer L. Sage of Conneaut, Ohio, this marriage taking place at Mechanicsville, Iowa. To this union six children were born, two [of] whom survive, two sons and two daughters having preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. R. D. Hillary of Spirit Lake and Mrs. O. S. Bailey of Waterloo, 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Her husband, Spencer L. Sage, died about 30 years ago and since that time Mrs. Sage has spent most of the time with her daughters. The greater portion of the past 25 years has been spent in Spirit Lake at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hillary. Mrs. Sage was a Christian woman who was devoted to her children and it was this devotion that occupied almost her entire late years. She joined the Baptist church when a girl. Funeral service was held at the R. D. Hillary home Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, with the Rev. Herbert Marsh officiating. The remains were taken to Garner where interment was made.
