Pioneer Ranch Wooman Buried Belle Fourche Sept 14 Services were held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon for Mrs Mary Katherine LeFor, 83, who died Friday morning. The Rev L.A. Johnson of the Methodist church officiated and burial was in Pine Slope Cemetery. Pallbearers were TC Gay, Ruben Schmiedt, WR Arnold, JS Smith and Sam McMaster. Mrs LeFors lived for 16 years on the old Hash Knife ranch, 3 miles north of Camp Crook, which her husband managed. She was the only woman on the large ranch, which at that time employed more than 300 men. One time while she was there alone, she recalled that she entertained the Sioux Chief, Sitting Bull and a few companions. Mrs LeFors was born in Lebanon Mo on March 13, 1859 and when only a year old her parents moved to near Tyler Texas. The family subsequently lived in another Texas town. She was married in 1880 to William West LeFors, and son Arthur was born to them, while they were traveling north from Texas with a trail herd. In the Spring of 1884 she moved with her husband to the Hash Knife Ranch and lived there until 1900 when the moved to Belle Fourche.
