Description	:	EICH, MARY LOUISE—Mary Louise Huber Eich was born on the family farm near Friend on Feb. 20, 1927. She was one of six children in the family of John and Rena Barney Huber. Read More	EICH, MARY LOUISE—Mary Louise Huber Eich was born on the family farm near Friend on Feb. 20, 1927. She was one of six children in the family of John and Rena Barney Huber. She attended 101 Country School, and graduated from Friend high School in 1943. Following graduation at age 16, she moved to Lincoln where she worked at LT&T and the Elgin Watch Company. She attended the University of Nebraska one summer, and then returned home to teach at 101 where her students named her “Miss Mary.” In 1949, she married Keith Eich of Strang. This union was blessed with three daughters, Gale, Janene, and Karen. Life was busy on the farm. She was a helpmate to her husband while encouraging her daughters in their talents and aspirations. In 1981, Keith and Mary moved to Geneva. Together they enjoyed square dancing, clowning, camping, and traveling with their friends. Keith and Mary celebrated their 40th anniversary on May 22, 1989, they took a trip back to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., where they had honeymooned. Keith died Nov. 1 of that fall. Mary joined Keith in their heavenly home on the same date nine years later. She died peacefully in her sleep at home and had attained the age of 71 year, 8 months and 11 days. Mary was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva, serving on various committees as well as being a Sunday school Teacher, a member of Woman’s fellowship, the vocal and bell choirs, and was currently a member of the Board of Trustees. You could find her working in the Memorial Gardens, for she saw her church as a continuation of her home and felt responsible for its upkeep. Mary served her communities of Strang and Geneva faithfully. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the Strang Sewing Club, the Fillmore County Hospital Auxiliary, and TAK Kensington. Her volunteer contributions included Meals On Wheels and Save For America—a school banking program. After the loss of her husband, Mary took a number of trips with family and friends. In 1993, she journeyed to New Zealand. Last spring, she traveled through the southern United States. She always had a souvenir sack for her family when she returned. She enjoyed bridge clubs, the PEO sisterhood and in recent years had embarked on quilt making. She had made a quilt for each of her grandchildren and had just finished a grandmothers’ fan quilt for Adrienne. Attending her grandchildren’s activities brought her much joy and just last week she had gone to Wichita, Kan. to see Tyler golf at the collegiate level. When she became ill in August, she looked forward to Aaron greeting her at the door on his morning paper route and enjoyed reading Tony’s column “The Golf Nut Speaks” every Thursday in the Clay County News. She shared with Derrick her clowning bag of tricks to encourage his interest in the art of illusion. Mary enjoyed watching Eric develop his music talents with his involvement in the “L Street Singers.” Grandma enjoyed two graduations last spring, Tony from college and Tyler from high school. Preceding her in death were husband, Keith; parents, John and Rena Huber; her in-laws, Frank and Grace Eich; sister-in-law, Hazel Hinrichs and brother-in-law, Basil Bodwalk. Mary lives in the hearts of those who loved her, her children; Gail and Frank Chapman, Janene and Dan Collins, and Karen Allgood. Her grandchildren: Tony and Tyler Chapman, Eric and Aaron Allgood, and Derrick and Adrienne Collins; two brothers, John and wife, Verna Huber, Paul and wife, Charlene Huber; three sisters, Freda Bodwalk, Hilda and husband, Stan Schweitzer, and Erma and husband Keith Clouse; a brother-in-law, Bernard Hinrichs and wife, Ruby, nieces and nephews and many more relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, with Rev. Wanda W. Bennett officiating. Dorothy Apley served as organist and accompanied Kelly Eich and Jan Ashby who sang a duet, “Eternal Praise.” The congregational hymns were “Here I Am, Lord” and “Hymn of Promise.” Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
