Description	:	EICH, KEITH EUGENE—Keith Eugene Eich was born on March 3, 1921, to Frank Eich and Grace Messman Eich at Strang. He was raised on the family farm 1 ½ miles east of Strang. Read More	EICH, KEITH EUGENE—Keith Eugene Eich was born on March 3, 1921, to Frank Eich and Grace Messman Eich at Strang. He was raised on the family farm 1 ½ miles east of Strang. In 1938 he graduated from Strang High School. He remained on the farm until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1943. On May 22, 1949, he married Mary Louise Huber of Friend. Life became busy with three little girls on the farm. Keith’s hobby was woodworking, and he generously shared these talents, not only with his family but the communities of Strang and Geneva. Christmas was never over until the family went to the basement to see what he had made for one of his girls. His interest in the education of children led him to serve on the Strang School Board for many years. Keith’s commitment to the First Congregational United Church of Christ was reflected in the many committees on which he served. Keith and Mary remained on the farm until 1981, when they moved to Geneva. He enjoyed square dancing, clowning, camping and traveling. Baseball was his favorite sport. His position was shortstop on the Strang ball teams. Later he helped coach the women’s softball team. He enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in sports and was always eager to start a backyard ballgame. He passed away at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva on November 1, 1989, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 28 days. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Grace and his sister, Hazel Hinrichs. He lives in the hearts of his wife, Mary of 40 years; his daughters and three sons-in-law, Gail and Frank Chapman of Hampton, Janene and Dan Collins of Independence, Kas., and Karen and Steve Allgood of Strang, grandsons, Tony and Tyler Chapman, Derrick Collins and Eric and Aaron Allgood; brother-in-law, Bernard Hinrichs of Bruning, uncle, Leon Messman and wife, Wylma, of Aurora, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Geneva on Friday, November 3, with the Rev. Brenda Barnes Jamieson officiating. Mrs. Evalyn Foster served as the organist with Kelly Eich and Curt Prater singing duet numbers “Turn, Turn, Turn” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The congregational hymn was “Blest Be the Tie That Binds.” Pallbearers were Keith’s nephews, Max, Vaughn, Rex, and Gary Hinrichs, Leroy Voss and Jeffrey Joe.
