Word came from West Branch that Mrs. Collins had died suddenly in her chair as she sat visiting in the Hemingway home at West Branch, where they arrived only a few minutes before. Deceased had been in rather frail health for some weeks, but her condition had not been thought critical. Mary Sheldon Collins was born on a farm in York Prairie, Center township Cedar county Iowa, on January 31, 1862, the daughter of Charles P. and Laura Mantle Sheldon, and died at the home of Misses Clara and Anne Hemingway, near West Branch. Sunday afternoon, May 4, 1930, having reached the age of 68 years, 3 months and 4 days. Mrs. Collins was the youngest of seven children. When she was 14 years of age her mother passed away, and after the death of her father she made her home with her sister, Mr. M.H. Miller, March 20, 1884, she was united in marriage with Emmor Collins of Muscatine. They made their home in Muscatine and later in Clarence, moving to Tipton in 1894, where she has lived ever since. One daughter, Florence, was born to them. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church when a young girl, and was a member of the official board for a number of yeas and active in the church organizations until her death. A favorite interest was the Nineteenth Century club, founded in Tipton in 1895, in which she was a charter member. She was a member of the Old Settlers' Association of Cedar County and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Emmor Collins; one daughter , Mrs. Arthur R. Weed, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Jean Week and Robert Collins Weed, of Columbus, Ohio, a sister, Mrs. Jennie Parson, and a brother, Albert M. Sheldon, and other relatives, Mrs. Collins had been in failing health for more than a year, but recently had improved. On Sunday she expressed a desire to take a drive because of the beautiful day, and went with her husband to the Hemingway farm. She was talking happily with her friends when the end came quickly and peacefully. In the early years of her marriage she made a home for niece, Elma Sheldon. during the years she attended high school and college. Her dearest interest was her home, her family and her friends. She lived quietly and happily always loyal and courageous In any difficulty. By her many thoughtfull acts during the last few months of her life her friends knew that she was prepared to go and had followed the injunction of her faith, "Set the house in order. Funeral services were held at her home Wednesday afternoon, followed by burial in Masonic Cemetery.
