Leeling was born in Bonepart, Iowa. Mary (Leeling) Dotts married Gideon Dotts on Jan 20,1885 and they had two children. George and Maude. Gid and Mary raised the kids on a farm near Eddyville, Iowa. Mary was a tiny woman on the outside but strong as an ox and determined on the inside. Gid was a very large man and next to him, she looked even smaller. I never got to meet my greatgrandmother as she passed away a couple years before I was born, but greatgrandpa mentioned her to me, and I'm sure he wanted me to know her. But he was a man of few words, so I don't know much. Mary and Gideon had two children, George and Maude. George married Ruth (Davis) and Maude married Charlie Johnson. Maude, Charlie and their son are buried in the Eddyville cemetery in the same row as Phillip and Margart Dotts, Gideons parents. MRS GIDEON DOTTS DIES Mrs. Mary Magdalene Dotts, aged 86, wife of Gideon Dotts, died Sunday morning, May 11, 1947, at 8.30 o'clock at the Van Dyke Nursing Home following a long illness. She was the daughter of Sebastian and Caroline Leeling and was born at Bonaparte. Iowa, March 7, 1861. On January 20, 1885 she was married to Gideon Dotts and moved to a farm South of Eddyville. This was their home until 1915 when they retired and came to Eddyville. Besides her husband she is survived by a daughter Mrs. C.W. Johnson and a son, George Dotts, both of Eddyville; also a sister Mrs. Elizabeth L. Bell of Mena, Arkansas, two brothers Clem Felling of Harrison, Nebraska and Hugh Felling of Ottumwa, two grandsons and a great daughter. A grandson, Master Sgt. Dale Dotts, was killed in service with Hqts. of 6th Army in Leyte during World War II. The Rosary was recited Monday evening at 8 o'clock at her late home on north fifth street. Funeral services were held from St. Mary's Catholic church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, Requiem Mass was celebrated by Father Martin of Ottumwa. Burial was made in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery (From the Eddyville Tribune, THURSDAY, MAY 15,1947)
