Mrs. Banghart was born Nov. 6, 1919, at Centralia, Mo. to Earnest L. and Edith A. Brown Prather. She married Merle Edwin Banghart, Aug. 1, 1948, in Mexico, Mo. and he preceded her in death, Sept. 20, 1986. Surviving are 2 children, Karyl (Gary) Sublette of Palmyra and Charles Edwin (Stella) Banghart of Hannibal, 3 grandchildren, Leah M. (Justin) Dawson of Newark, Katie L. (DeForrest Sims, IV) Tierney of Hannibal and Stephanie D. (Benjamin Schwieter) Banghart of Hannibal, 4 great-grandchildren, Logan Dawson, Gage Dawson, Krysten Banghart and Alayna Tierney. Mrs. Banghart was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Edwin Banghart, a brother, James Prather and a sister, Hazel Prather. Mrs. Banghart enjoyed a 32 year career in education, retiring from Palmyra Elementary School. She also taught in Keokuk and the Bay Island and Woodland rural schools. Mary graduated from Mexico High School and Kirksville State Teachers College. Mary was a longtime member of Hannibal First Christian Church and the Christian Woman's Fellowship of the church. She was a member of the Hannibal Study Club and liked to volunteer with the Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Douglass Community Service Food Pantry, in care of Smith Funeral Home & chapel. Pallbearers will be Charles Edwin Banghart, Gary Sublette, Justin Dawson, DeForrest Sims IV, Roy Miller and Benjamin Schwieter. Online condolences may be made at www. smithfuneralhomeandchapel.com.
