Mary Margaret Hooshagen, daughter of William and Margaret (Schmidt) Hooshagen, was born January 9, 1927 in rural Sioux Falls, SD. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Sioux Falls Washington High School in 1944. Following high school Mary began work at Norwest Bank (now Wells Fargo Bank). Mary was united in marriage with Richard Jastram on August 22, 1948 in Hartford, SD. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Mary was first and foremost a Christian mother and homemaker caring for her children. She worked in several positions at the bank, including bookkeeping. She retired from Wells Fargo in 1987 after 41 years of service. Mary was a very active member of Christ Lutheran Church, where she served as chairwoman of Anna Circle and L.W.M.L. (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) and taught both Sunday School and weekday school for many years. In addition, she served as an officer with the Linwood Elementary School PTA. Mary enjoyed crafts of every kind. She created handmade decorations for each season and holidays. She loved cooking and baking special treats for her family, especially decorating cakes for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and crocheting. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, on September 23, 2009; two infant daughters and an infant son; her parents; and two sisters, Jeanne Hooshagen and Harriet Dibble.
