Mrs. Mary James died Saturday, April 10, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Zed Sesler, southwest of Battle Creek, after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Christian church in Highland precinct with Rev. J. W. Elliot of Wakefield in charge and burial followed at the Union cemetery of Battle Creek. Many relatives and friends from all parts of the county were in attendance. The following obituary is contributed: Mary Margaret Paffod was born May 5, 1850, at Sugar Grove, Smith county (*Smyth), Virgina, and was 75 years, 11 months and 5 days old when she passed to her reward. She was united in marriage to William P. James September 23, 1868, and twelve children were born to this union: James T., S. Robert, John L., Braxton L., Michael D., Thomas, Crocket and William E., residents of Madison County, Mrs. Sarah Sesler of Battle Creek, Mrs. ELizabeth Boyer of Meadow Grove, Nebraska, Mrs. Emma Cress of Virginia, and Alpha James, deceased. Her husband died June 3, 1924. Aside from the eleven children the surviving members of the family include one brother, two sisters, fifty-seven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grand children. She united with the Methodist church at the early age of seventeen and was a member of that church until 1900, when she united with the Christian church and remained a faithful member of that church until her death. To know Grandma James was to love her. She was a friend of all old and young, of a true Christian character and a living example of the faith she professed. In her home life she was a faithful wife and a loving mother. Her life was beautiful and when her Master called her she was ready to go to her heavenly home.
