James Passes Away After Short Illness at Sesler Home Near Battle Creek.--Funeral Thursday William P. James, a resident of Battle Creek for over twenty years, died at 5 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Zed Sesler, southwest of Battle Creek, where he had gone a week before for a short visit. Though he had occasionally suffered with heart trouble, Mr. James' death at this time came unexpectedly. He was stricken Monday afternoon and though conscious at times he gradually grew weaker until the end came. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the Christian church southwest of Battle Creek, Rev. L. L. Chambers of Battle Creek and Rev. J. L. Snyder of Norfolk conducting the services. The body was brought to Battle Creek for interment at Union cemetery. Mr. James was 82 years, 3 months and 24 days old at the time of his death, being born at Sugar Grove, Virginia, February 9, 1842. He was married to Margaret M. Paffort September 23, 1867, and came to Nebraska with his family in 1902. Battle Creek had been his home since that time. With his faithful wife who had been his companion for nearly sixty years, he enjoyed his declining years at his residence in the southeast part of town where the large family frequently gathered for happy reunions. He was a man who lived by the Golden Rule and won the friendship of hundreds in this section of the county who regret his departure from this life. Aside from the wife there survive eleven children, eight sons and three daughters: J.T. James of Rogers, Neb.; John L. of Norfolk, Neb.; S. Robert, Brack L., Michael D., William E. and W. Crocket James of Tilden, Neb.; Tom James and Mrs. Lizzie Boyer of Meadow Grove, Neb.; Mrs. Sallie Sesler of Battle Creek, Neb., and Mrs. Emma Cress of Scottsville, Virginia. All of the children with exception of Mrs. Cress were with their father during his final hours.
