Rushmore Laid to Rest Here The body of Mrs. J. B. Rushmore, 95, pioneer Nevada woman who died at the home of her only son Eugene R. Rushmore, at Jefferson on Jan. 4, was brought to Nevada for interment in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery, following services held at the Morfoot funeral home here at 2 p. m. , with Rev. Thomas J. Reese of the Jefferson Baptist church in charge. The following brief sketch of the life of the deceased was read during the service by the officiating clergyman. "Mary Marrilla Rushmore passed from this life at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Jefferson, Ia., Jan. 4, 1942. She had reached the age of 94 years, 10 months and 26 days. "She was the daughter of Mar. and Mrs. Samuel Goodell and was born in Tioga county, Pennsylvania on Feb. 8, 1847. She grew to womanhood in Pennsylvania and was married there in 1870 to James Baker Rushmore. About 11 more left the state of Pennsylvania and came directly to Nevada, Ia., where they established their permanent home. "The husband served in the Civil war and for several years Mrs. Rushmore held membership in the Women's Relief Corps. "They were the parents of a son and a daughter Ella May and Eugene R. Mr. Rushmore preceded his wife in death in May of 1925 and the daughter passed away in December, 1940. "Mrs. Rushmore was a member of the Baptist church." Mrs. Rushmore, whose home had long been at 335 Lincoln Way, Nevada, was taken to the home of her son at Jefferson on Dec. 20 to spend the balance of the winter months, but it was not until New Year's eve that she was taken ill, resulting in her death of Jan. 4. During her over 60 years' residence in Nevada, Mrs. Rushmore was well known and beloved as a devoted wife and mother whose family and home were her greatest interest in life. For many years she had been confined closely to her home because of her advanced years, yet she held keen interest in the affairs of life and enjoyed the association with her neighbors and friends. The one daughter Miss Ella had remained in the home during her entire lifetime and even after the passing of this devoted daughter, Mrs. Rushmore had insisted in living in her own home with a companion, rather than going elsewhere.
