MARY MATILDA HOSKINSON, née GILMORE Funeral services for Mrs. Mary M. Hoskinson, 85, who died [Monday,] November 23rd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George France, Longmont, Colorado, were conducted Friday afternoon [November 27, 1942] at Meadow Grove by the Reverend G. L. Weik, Methodist church minister, followed by burial in Prospect Hill cemetery at Norfolk. Those serving as pallbearer were: Fred Penn, Alvin Troxell, Fred and Henry Hamdorf, all of Neligh; Ervin Warnecke and Philip Fink, both of Norfolk. Mary M. Gilmore, Mrs. Hoskinson's maiden name, was born December 15, 1856, near Moravia, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gilmore. She was the second in a family of four [sic; six] sisters and one brother [and one half-sister], all of whom preceded her in death. [Her siblings were: Thomas; Eliza Jane; Sophronia Ann; Sarah E.; Fannie Belle; Emma Elizabeth; and half-sister Iba. Mary was just twelve years old when her mother Elizabeth died at the age of 39 years and 6 months.] She came to Nebraska in 1879 and was married November 18, 1879 to Joseph W. Hoskinson at Elkhorn [Precinct in Douglas County]. They established their home on a farm until 1887 when they moved near Hooper, where they resided until 1901 when they moved to a farm near Neligh. They lived there until the spring of 1936 when they moved to Pierce county, locating ten miles northeast of Meadow Grove, where Mr. Hoskinson died May 14, 1938. Since that time she had made her home with her sons and daughter in Nebraska and Colorado. Surviving are four sons and a daughter: Harry and Roy, Norfolk; Mrs. Bertha France, Longmont, Colorado; Rollie and Earl, Pierce; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a number of nephews and nieces. Among those from out of town at the funeral were: Mrs. Charles Newton and son, Dean, and Dean Hoskinson, all of Rome, California; Mrs. Carry Morman, Mrs. Hattie McNutt, and Mrs. F. Banister, all of Wayne. Huston Funeral services were held in Meadow Grove [Madison County, Nebraska] on Tuesday [sic; Friday, November 27, 1942] for Mrs. Mary Hoskinson. Mr. and Mrs. Hoskinson were pioneers of this neighborhood [they were fondly addressed by people in the community as Uncle Joe and Aunt Mary}, raising their family here and moving to the Meadow Grove neighborhood only a few years ago. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Bertha [Mrs. George West France], at Longmont, Colorado. She was 85 years of age. She is survived by her daughter and four sons.
