Description	:	Born in England, 16-year old Mary Miles Eyre departed for America in 1843 via ship with her mother Eliza (Turner) Eyre and four younger siblings. Their ship left Liverpool and made port in New Orleans the same year. It is likely that they took a schooner up the Mississippi River from New Orleans to St. Louis, where they met up and rejoined Miles Eyre, Mary's father. Read More	Born in England, 16-year old Mary Miles Eyre departed for America in 1843 via ship with her mother Eliza (Turner) Eyre and four younger siblings. Their ship left Liverpool and made port in New Orleans the same year. It is likely that they took a schooner up the Mississippi River from New Orleans to St. Louis, where they met up and rejoined Miles Eyre, Mary's father. Miles was a knife specialist who had obtained American Citizenship in Saint Louis, and who then sought to venture West, via the Old Oregon Territory. After his family finally reunited with him in St. Louis, they headed to the Oregon Territory via mule train. Miles drowned while attempting to cross the Snake River, near the current day Boise, Idaho area with his money strapped around his chest. After her father's death, Mary departed her original westward train, with a John Sinclair, a man roughly 16 years older than she was. Together, John and Mary headed to CA and settled there. Mary's mother Eliza remarried twice. First to a James Campbell from Kentucky whose wife had recently died, and then to a William Hobson. Eliza ultimately settled and died in Oregon area. On or about the time of the California Gold Rush, Mary and John Sinclair took a ship to Panama where they disembarked and traveled by land to the Atlantic. With their life possessions, they boarded another ship and headed for New Orleans. Unfortunately, John became sick and died in 1849 aboard the ship somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico. Some speculate that he was buried at sea. In 1852, Mary remarried. Her second husband, Sidney Glass Davis, was a cotton broker/merchant born in Main. Settling in the Massachusetts area, Sidney and Mary raised six children: Ada Sinclair Davis, Sidney Walter Davis, Clara S. Davis, Allan Miles Davis, Marion Davis and Fannie French Davis.
