Ferneau was born in Ross county, Ohio, on February 16, 1844. Departed this life one Friday, April 27, 1917, aged 73 years, 2 months and 11 days. On the 12th of June, 1867, she was united in marriage to Byram B. Martin at Montezuma, Iowa. To this union were born seven children, Charles E., resident of Oakland, Calif. La Rue, wife of Charles H. Blumenaur of Steubenville, Ohio, Richard L. of Malcom, Mary A., wife of A. L. Burford of Brooklyn, Iowa, Nellie M. wife of L.P. Raymond of Stillwater, Minn., Lucy E., wife of George Graff of Sheridan township, all of whom are living, the seventh having died in infancy. Mrs. Martin came to Iowa with her parents in 1856, settling near Montezuma. About two years after her marriage with Mr. Martin they moved to Malcom where they have since resided and have therefore been residents of the county over 60 years. Deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, having joined the church August 1889. Recieved by the Rev. Matt S. Hughes, 27 years ago. The funeral services were held at the home on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, April 30th. Rev. W.A. Smith officiating. Interment was made in Ivy Hill cemetery. In addition to the large number living in the vicinity of Malcom, the following from a distance were in attendance at the funeral: Charles E. Martin, Oakland, Calif., Mr. and Mrs C. H. Blumenaur, Steubenville, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Raymond, Stillwater, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Burford, Brooklyn, Ia., Mrs. Charles Manatt, Belle Plaine, Ia., Mr. Roy Bates, New Sharon, Ia., Mrs. George Graff and Mr. and Mrs. William Hink of Newton, Ia., Mrs. E.P. Raymond of Stillwater, Minn.
