Levi Walker Ferneau was born in Ross county, Ohio, August 16, 1846. He came with his father to Poweshiek county in the fall of 1858 and has lived continuously in this vicinity. He was married to Sarah J. Mace Strader February 25, 1869. To this union were born two sons and four daughters - Charles E., Walker T., Mrs. J.D. Coulter, Mrs. John M. Harden, Mrs. A. A. Stigers and Mrs E. T. Fahrney. These together with the wife survive to mourn his passing. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother - Mrs Sarah Bates of New Sharon, Mrs. B. B. Griffith of Montezuma, Mrs. B. B. Martin of Malcolm, Mrs. P. C. Dillon of Woonsocket, South Dakota, and M. C. Ferneau of Grinnell. Nineteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nephews and nieces are left to mourn. Mr. Ferneau was a quiet, industrious man, doing his utmost for their comfort and care. He had the respect and esteem of all and those who knew him best cherished him at his full worth.
