Mrs. Walling was born April 24, 1921, in Orangeburg County, a daughter of the late John Henry Thomas and Blanche Bessinger Thomas. She was educated in the Willow Schools near Cope. She was the widow of Brantly William Walling. Mrs. Walling shared her life between her two homes. She gave honor to the town of Maggie by serving as 'Miss' Maggie for the last six years. Mrs. Walling welcomed and greeted the visitors as they entered the town. Maggie Valley recently bestowed honor to her as they thanked her for her faithful service. Mrs. Walling is a member of Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church near Cope, and attended Maggie Baptist Church while in North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her husband and four brothers, Amon Thomas, Theof Thomas, Herman Thomas, and Allen Thomas. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Annette Smith of Maggie Valley, N.C. and Mrs. Ted (Julia Marie) Brooks of Cope; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Henry and Beverly Walling of Cope, and Thomas Wayne and Theresa Walling of Leesville; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Margariet S. Duncan of Beaufort; brother, Henry 'Son' Thomas of Santee. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday,Sept. 10 at Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg. Friends may call at the residence of William and Beverly Walling, their country house in Bolentown, and at Thompson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church--Kitchen Fund, 1066 Bonnette Road, Cope, SC 29038, or to Maggie First Baptist Church, Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC 28751. Thompson Funeral Home of Orangeburg is in charge.
