Description	:	MARY NEVA McLEAN Mary Neva McLean, a longtime resident of Greenwood County, died at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka on Sunday, November 30, 1986. She was 81. Born in Baldwin City on August 23, 1905, Mrs. McLean was the daughter of Robert and Mabel May Eddy Simmons. She moved to the Paw Paw community in northern Elk County with her parents when she was a small child and attended the local schools. Mrs. McLean was a graduate of Severy High School. Read More	MARY NEVA McLEAN Mary Neva McLean, a longtime resident of Greenwood County, died at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka on Sunday, November 30, 1986. She was 81. Born in Baldwin City on August 23, 1905, Mrs. McLean was the daughter of Robert and Mabel May Eddy Simmons. She moved to the Paw Paw community in northern Elk County with her parents when she was a small child and attended the local schools. Mrs. McLean was a graduate of Severy High School. She later attended the state colleges in Emporia and Pittsburg. Mrs. McLean taught in elementary schools in Elk County for several years. On July 31, 1926, Mrs. McLean married Walter R. McLean in Fort Scott They made their home on a farm near Piedmont. McLean died September 4, 1976, and Mrs. McLean moved to Eureka the following year. Mrs. McLean was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She also worked with the Greenwood County Unit of the American Cancer Society for more than 20 years. Survivors are a son, Harold, Piedmont; a daughter, Neola Miller, Eureka; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie Simmons, Hutchinson, and Russell Simmons, Severy: and two sisters, Catherine Barrier, Eureka., and Helen Seimears Garner, Piedmont. Mrs. McLean was preceded in death by a brother, in addition to her husband. The funeral service was held the afternoon of Wednesday, December 3, 1986 at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Phyllis Garrett, church pastor, officiated. Interment was in Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard. Campbell Funeral Home in Eureka was in charge of arrangements. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be left at the funeral home or the two banks here.
