Description	:	WALTER RUSSEL McLEAN Walter Russel McLean, son of John and Ida Rogers McLean, was born July 19, 1892 near Howard. and died September 4, 1976 in Eureka. While a young child he moved with his family to the Paw Paw community in northern Elk county, Here he finished his schooling. became a member of the Salem Baptist Church, and grew to manhood. Read More	WALTER RUSSEL McLEAN Walter Russel McLean, son of John and Ida Rogers McLean, was born July 19, 1892 near Howard. and died September 4, 1976 in Eureka. While a young child he moved with his family to the Paw Paw community in northern Elk county, Here he finished his schooling. became a member of the Salem Baptist Church, and grew to manhood. He served this country as a member of the 182nd Division of the Field Artillery in Europe during World War I. Following the Armistice, he remained in Germany as a member of the Army of Occupation for six months. On July 31, 1926 he and Mary Neva Simmons were united in marriage at Fort Scott. They recently had the privilege of celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary. Two children, Neola Mae and Harold Eugene, were born to this union- In early 1932 he and his family moved to the farm northwest of Piedmont where he lived the rest of his life. Walter was a kind and gentle man who lived his life according to his own high standards. He was fond of the world of nature. Farming was his chosen profession and fishing was a lifelong hobby. He was interested in those about him and always had time to listen to what each person had to say. Survivors include his wife, Neva, who tenderly and faithfully cared for him during his long years of poor health; his children, Neola Miller, and husband Bill of Eureka, and Harold and his wife, Eyvonnie of Piedmont; two sisters, Maude Smith of Eureka and Pearl James of Tucson, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, Gloria, Crandell, Joshline, Dana, Rochelle, Jeff and Erie McLean, and Stacey, Craig, Madeleine and Allison Miller; a large number of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends of long duration who have fond memories of Walt and Uncle Walt. His parents, two brothers, Albert and Bill, and three sisters, Maggie, Anna and Bertha, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held September 8 at the Piedmont United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lenore Stanton officiating. Interment was in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard. Forsberg Funeral Home was in charge.
