Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Celebrating Mass will be the Rev. Marty Egging. Mary Pauline (McKenzie) Grossart was born May 6, 1927, on a family farm near Spalding in Greeley County, the daughter of John and Mary (Joyce) McKenzie. She grew up in Leo Valley, a small community between Greeley and Spalding. Pauline attended country school. At the age of 14 she attended Irving Junior High in Lincoln. She stayed with friends and worked for room and board because there was no way for her to get to school. At the age of 15 she moved with her parents to a farm north of Wolbach and she was able to attend Wolbach Public School, walking three to four miles every day. Pauline graduated as salutatorian in 1944 with a normal training certificate. On Oct. 27, 1947, she married Junior (Bill) Grossart in O’Connor. This union was blessed with four children. Following their marriage, they lived for 25 years in Wolbach, where she taught at Greeley Sacred Heart and Wolbach Public School. They moved to Grand Island in 1972 and she taught at Central Catholic High School and Chapman. Following 10 summers she completed her bachelor’s degree in 1972. She retired from the Chapman School in 1991 following 40 years of teaching. Pauline was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. One of her greatest joys was making each great-grandchild a personalized sequined Christmas stocking. Those left to cherish her memory include a sister, Phyllis Dubas of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Willa Berney of Wolbach; four children; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. They include daughter, Rita Lammers of Grand Island and her two sons, Brian (Ashley) Lammers, and their children, Shelby and Toby and Rita’s second son, Brad Lammers; daughter, Susan (Verlyn) L’Heureux of Omaha and their two sons, Tracy (Katie) O’Gorman and their children, Triston, Dylan and Quinten and Susan’s second son, Travis (Amy) O’Gorman and their children, Alex (Matt) Stice, Nevan and Eamon; son, Bill (Pamela) Grossart of Grand Island and their two sons, Brandon (Amber) Grossart and their children, Peyton and Ava and Bill’s second son, Blake (special friend Lexi Sadd) Grossart; and daughter, Rosanne (Dan) Christensen of Wolbach and their four daughters and one son, Jackie (Sean) Gellatly and their children, Raegan, Hannah and Dax; Amanda (Chris) Terrano and their children, Gavin, Kylee and Preston; Josh Christensen and his daughter, Kelsey; and Andrea Christensen and Katie Christensen. Also surviving is her dear friend, Arlie Jasnock of Primrose Retirement, along with an extended host of family and friends. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Junior (Bill); her parents; son-in-law, Jerry Lammers; grandson, Todd Lammers; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Fritz Fenton; brother, Jack; brother-in-law, Frank Dubas; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cook, Lila Terry, Lillian Wickard, Agnes Patrick and Ruby Bearbower.
