Piper Mrs. William Piper, one of the older residents of this town and district passed away at the home of her step-daughter, Mrs. D.S. Mrs. Piper had been fairly smart physically up to last March, but came in to the hospital on May 30, where she remained for a month or more, returning a few days ago to Mrs. Urquhart's home, where she passed quietly away. Mrs. Piper was born in Londonderry, Ireland, and came out to Montreal with her parents at the age of 16. She was married in Bracebridge, Ont., to Mr. Piper, and the family came out to Red Deer in 1892, where Mr. Piper established a brick yard, which he maintained until the beginning of the war. Mr. Piper was a prominent Orangeman in Middlesex County, Ontario, and in Alberta, and was a well-known pub....? up to his death at Red Deer on August 21, 1919, in his 80th year. Mr. Frank Piper, of Chisholm, Alta., and Mrs. Urquhart are step-son and step-daughter of Mrs. Piper. She has a sister surviving--Mrs. H. McCann, Balmoral. Mrs. Piper was held in very high esteem by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She was one of the charter members of the Eastern Star in Red Deer, and also a charter member of the Ladies' Orange Lodge, of which she was made an honorary member, and these lodges honored her with flowers at the funeral. Mrs. Piper has always been a loyal member of the Christian Science Society. She was true to her ideals of family and neighborly service and life, and never spared herself in her long years of duty almost up to the last. The funeral service took place from the Orme Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. R.L. Gaetz and Mrs. Hugh Clarke reading the services. Miss Daisy Gaetz rendered an appropriate solo.
