Walters, whose maiden name was Thompson, was born in Germantown, Montgomery County, Ohio, Dec. 4th, 1828. She moved with her parents to Iowa when she was but fifteen years of age, and has lived here ever since with the exception of four years spent in California. She was united in marriage to Henry Walters Jan. 27th, 1848, and to them were born a family of fourteen children-nine of whom are still living-who together with husband and father, mourn her loss. For thirty-one years she lived with her husband and family on the farm east of Tipton. Five years ago they moved to town, where she has since resided, and where the children and grandchildren loved to assemble and be with mother and grandmother. What sadness will come now to the hearts of these as they reflect that they shall see her presence no more nor find her welcome awaiting them as they return home. The home has been bereft of its most enjoyable and sacred presence when mother is taken, and never again does it seem exactly the same. But if their earthly home has been robbed of one of its most precious boons, the heavenly home has been enriched thereby, since it holds for us one dearer than all others next to our beloved Savior, mother. Heaven hearafter will be more real-will have new attractions for us since she has gone there. Sister Walters was converted some thirty years ago and united with the church, since which time she has been a consistent member. She was not demonstrative in her religious life, but those who knew her best felt that it was genuine and sincere. She was an affectionate and faithful wife and a mother that was always concerned about her children and grandchildren. Among the last things which she thought of was some little thing to be sent to the grandchildren as an evidence of her regard for them. She was taken sick upon the 45th anniversary of her wedding day, January 27th, the time which the family had intended to commemorate with a gathering. After lingering in more or less of pain for eleven days, she sank into a state of unconsciousness from which she never recovered. As loving ones stood round her bed side watching life slowly ebb away, the spirit immortal plumed itself for flight to realms above. Besides a husband and children she leaves three sisters and two brothers, eighteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral was conducted from the M.E. Church on Thursday, the pastor, Rev. C.L. Gould, preaching to a large and sympathetic congregation composed of those who had known and esteemed the deceased and met to mingle their tears with the bereaved. The body was laid to rest in the hallowed, snow covered ground of Masonic cemetery to await the final awakening.
