From Nevada Evening Journal June 1, 1935 (page 3) Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Trussel Friday Afternoon Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Memorial Lutheran church at Nevada for Mrs. Mary Trussel, 59, who died in Des Moines May 20. The service was in charge of Dr. J. O. Simon and interment was in the Nevada cemetery. The life sketch of the decased, read during the service follows: Mary Rounds was born in New Jersey on February 6, 1876 and while still a child was baptized in the Lutheran church. Her parents settled on a farm near McCallsburg, Iowa, where she spent her girlhood. She was united in holy matrimony to William Hardin in April 1898. Two daughters were born to this union. One daughter, Mae and Mr. Hardin preceded the mother in death years ago. On December 6, 1922, she was united in marriage to Richard Russel. She has made her home in Des Moines for a number of years and was a member of the Wesley M. E. church. Mrs. Trussel has been in failing health for some time but her condition was not considered serious until about a week before her death. She was taken to the Iowa Lutheran hospital where she passed away May 20, 1935, at the age of 59 years, 3 months and fourteen days. She is the third in the family to be called to the Great Beyond within four months. Her aged mother, whom she helped to care for during her last illness, passed away on February 2, 1985, and seven weeks later her brother, Ever, was called by death. As a mother tender and loving, as a wife so understanding, as a friend, kind and helpful; as a neighbor so considerate Mrs. Trussel was loved and respected by all. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, one daughter, Mrs. George Roggensack, of Cedar Rapids, two grandsons, three sisters, Mrs. Clint Godfrey of Nevada, Mrs. Marne Illingworth and Mrs. William Kepke of Des Moines. Three brothers, Mates of Mankato, Minn., Peter and Thomas of Des Moines, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
