Description	:	DIED: At the home of her son, William Dorrance at Geneva, Mrs. Mary Dorrance, in the 88th year of her age. Her maiden name was Mary Shepherd; she was born in Seneca county, N.Y., Dec. 18th, 1808. She moved with her parents to Ontario county in 1819, and to Yates county about nine years after, where she spent several summers teaching school. She was married to Samuel Dorrance, Nov. 5th, 1832, and moved with her husband to St. Joseph county, Mich., in 1833, and to Madison county iowa, in 1854, where her husband died April 16th,... Read More	DIED: At the home of her son, William Dorrance at Geneva, Mrs. Mary Dorrance, in the 88th year of her age. Her maiden name was Mary Shepherd; she was born in Seneca county, N.Y., Dec. 18th, 1808. She moved with her parents to Ontario county in 1819, and to Yates county about nine years after, where she spent several summers teaching school. She was married to Samuel Dorrance, Nov. 5th, 1832, and moved with her husband to St. Joseph county, Mich., in 1833, and to Madison county iowa, in 1854, where her husband died April 16th, 1860, and she lived in widowhood all her life afterward. They were blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter, all of whom are still living except one son who was killed in the Army. She moved to Fairmont, Neb., with her son, William in 1872. She made a profession of religion when young and joined the Congregational church in Rushville, N.Y., Jan. 1st, 1825, and lived a consistent Christian life ever after. She was a diligent student of the Scripture, and being blessed with a remarkable memory, she treasured up a fund of Bible knowledge that was a great comfort and consolation to her in her old age. When quite young, she joined a society which had for its object the committing to memory of scripture. The members signed a pledge to commit to memory one verse each day, which pledge she ever kept. She was a very great reader and kept well informed in regard to the literature and news of the day.
