Read More	Morning Olympian Olympia, Washington Friday, November 22, 1895 Mrs. Mary Pope Lansdale, wife of Dr. R. H. Lansdale, died at her home in this city at 8:30 last evening. Although she had been in poor health for years, yet she was able to be about and her death came almost without warning. She had spent the day with her daughter, Mrs. Root, and was cheerful and bright and apparently in better health than usual. Upon returning home, however, she complained of terrible pains in the chest, and although medical assistance was immediately called, it proved of no avail and she passed quickly away. Mrs. Lansdale was born in New York city, January 2, 1836. With her parents and brothers and sisters she came to Oregon by ship around Cape Horn, arriving in Oregon in June, 1851. She was married at Oregon city, September 12, 1860, to Dr. R. H. Lansdale, who survives her. She lived at different places in Washington territory with her husband where he served as Indian agent and in other capacities for the government. In July, 1876, she and her husband and family established their residence in Olympia where it has ever since been. She leaves three children living. Mrs. Clayton Aldridge of Tacoma, Charles T. Lansdale and Mrs. M. A. Root of this city. Also two sisters, Mrs. Geo. A. Steel and Mrs. John W. Milbourn and two brothers Wm. H. and Thomas A. Pope, all of Oregon, and many other relatives in Oregon and Washington. She had been from childhood a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and took an active interest in all religious work. A devoted wife, a loving mother, a kind friend and a Christian woman, her sudden death comes as a shock and leaves a gloom of sorrow over all who knew her.
