Description	:	Mary Steer was born in Wirkley, Wales, May 10, 1847, and died at her farm home near Guide Rock Nebraska, May 29, 1931, at 4:30 o'clock. She lived to the age of 84 years and 19 days. As a young lady she moved with her parents to America, where they settled near Peoria, Illinois. She was married in 1869 to Charles Newman of Peoria, Ills. They resided near there until about 1879, when they moved to a farm near Nelson, Nebraska. They resided near there on rented farms until February of 1890 when they purchased present home... Read More	Mary Steer was born in Wirkley, Wales, May 10, 1847, and died at her farm home near Guide Rock Nebraska, May 29, 1931, at 4:30 o'clock. She lived to the age of 84 years and 19 days. As a young lady she moved with her parents to America, where they settled near Peoria, Illinois. She was married in 1869 to Charles Newman of Peoria, Ills. They resided near there until about 1879, when they moved to a farm near Nelson, Nebraska. They resided near there on rented farms until February of 1890 when they purchased present home northeast of Guide Rock. In August of that year her husband, Charles Newman, passed away and to her lot fell the responsibility of raising her family of small children. The family consisted of seven children, as follows: Frank, Ida, Fred, Minnie, Maud, Henry and Albert. Mrs. Newman was united with the Prairie Center Christian Church in middle age and was loved and respected by all who came to know her. She was a fond mother and a good neighbor who was always willing to help in case of need and she will be much missed by her community and loved ones. Mrs. Newman fell ill about three weeks ago and gradually became weaker until the all-knowing One called her home to rest forever. Two of her children preceded her into the next world. Little Henry died at the age of three years and Fred died in July of 1928, aged 52. The children who are left to mourn her passing are Frank of Oakley, Kansas; Mrs. Moine Allen of Hoxie, Kansas; Mrs. Sam Richardson, Lincoln, Nebr.; Mrs. John Schmidt, Glenville (sic), Nebr.; and Albert of Guide Rock, Nebr. She is also survived by twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great grand children. The funeral was held in Mt. Clare Monday morning at ten o'clock, the Rev. L.W.
