Description	:	Mary Burkey, was born on a farm near Milford, Nebraska December 14, 1917 the daughter of David and Phoebe (Stauffer) Stutzman the 4th of seven children and went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 30, 2010, at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 92 years 4 months and 16 days. Read More	Mary Burkey, was born on a farm near Milford, Nebraska December 14, 1917 the daughter of David and Phoebe (Stauffer) Stutzman the 4th of seven children and went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 30, 2010, at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 92 years 4 months and 16 days. Mary accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at East Fairview Mennonite Church. As a young girl she attended Country School District #73, also known as Stauffer School, through the 8th grade. As a young girl, she worked for several families as a "mother's helper". On May 7, 1939 she was united in marriage to Burdette E. Burkey at East Fairview Mennonite Church. To this union, four children Joan, Jerry, Gene and Kathy were born. In August of 1956, their son Gene was killed in a farming accident near their home south of Milford. Together they made their home on a farm near Milford where Mary was a busy mother, farm wife and helper to Burdette. Mary was an avid gardner and loved sharing the bounty with family and friends. For a time, Mary worked at the egg plant in Seward and later in the 1960's and 70's she cleaned houses in the Lincoln area. In 1980, they had a farm sale and "retired". In Burdette's last years, Mary was a loving caregiver. She loved to crochet, quilt and entertain her family with her great cooking. Mary was known to welcome everyone into her home with open arms. She enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins and friends. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren all have wonderful memories of visiting Grandma and the candy dis was always full. To the very end she enjoyed seeing her family, getting homemade cards, hugs and kisses from her great-grandchildren. Mary was a member of Beth-El Mennonite Church and served her church in many capapcities. She is survived by her children and spouses, Joan and Galen Schweitzer, Jerry and Susan Burkey, all of Lincoln, and Kathy and Bernie Stych, Cordova, nine grandchildren, Dave and Becky Hall, Palmyra, Amy and Don Danekas, Jr., Milford, Crystal and Dan Payne, Pulaski, IA, Carrie Burkey, Lincoln, Tom and Jen Burkey, Lincoln, Tyler and Megan Burkey, Milford, Barry and Robin Stych, Omaha, Barb and Toby Knott, Omaha, Melanie and Kurt Kuenning, Kansas City, 20 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcille and Henry Friesen, Milford, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Burdette in 2006, her son, Gene, sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma and Merle Rediger, Edna and Emmanuel Oswald, Violet and Delmar Roth, brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Hazel Stutzman, Wayne and Maxine Stutzman, Aden Stutzman.
