MARY DOSTAL DIES OF PNUEMONIA AT HOME HERE Mrs. Mary Dostal, 87, a resident of Tama county more than sixty years, died Friday at her home in Clutier following a five-day critical illness of pneumonia. The seriousness of her condition was noted in last week’s Star-Clipper, and the end was not unexpected, although she remained conscious and able to converse with her children and grandchildren almost to the last. Mrs. Dostal had been in ill health following a paralytic stroke suffered nine years ago. A second stroke, four years later, left her bedfast, and from then until her death she was constantly under the care of a daughter, Mrs. Ed O'Hearn, of Detroit, Mich., who came here to make her home with her. The funeral service was held Monday morning at the Immaculate Conception church in Clutier, with burial in St. Vaclav cemetery west of town. The Rev. Father T. A. Vopatek was in charge. Those here from a distance for the event included Mr. and Mrs. Tom Scholey, of Omaha, Neb., the latter and daughter of the decedent; and Miss Beatrice O'Hearn, of Detroit, a granddaughter. Pall bearers, all grandsons of Mrs. Dostal, were John Borisky, of Tama; and Ed, Charles, Fred, Will and Milo Krezek, all of this community. The decedent was born near Prague, Czecho-Slovakia, June 2, 1842. She was married there to Mr. Svoboda at the age of 16 and came to this country with her husband and two children at the age of 22. The family settled first at Iowa City, where they remained only a short time before continuing on to Tama county. They lived here first in the Vining neighborhood and then near Dupanda hall, southwest of Clutier. Mr. Svoboda died fifty-seven years ago, and his widow, was married a few years later to Joe Dostal, who died in 1902. After the death of her second husband Mrs. Dostal moved to Clutier, her home throughout the remainder of her life. The decedent was the mother of twelve children, four of whom died in infancy. Two others preceded her in death— Mrs. Joe Borisky, of Montour, and Mrs. Mike Caslavka, of Clutier. Three children of her first marriage survive— Mrs. Scholey and Mrs. O'Hearn, already mentioned, and Mrs. James Simek, of Tama. Three born to her second union are also living, these being Mrs. Frank Krezek, Mrs. Joe Krezek and Mrs. Fred Powell, all of the Clutier neighborhood.
