Mrs. Coons passed away Saturday, September 15th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. F. Menge of Chicago, where the deceased lady had been making her home for a number of years. Andrews officiating. Mrs. Coons passed away Saturday, September 15th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. F. Menge of Chicago, where the deceased lady had been making her home for a number of years. Mrs. Coons was born January 14, 1841 in Cornwall, England, and at the time of death was eighty-seven years of age. With her parents, she came to the United States when about six years of age. Her father was a miller, and settled near Linden, in Iowa county, Wis. After leaving Linden, she made her home with the Frank Billings family, attending school with the Billings children at Cobb, Wis., continuing to live with the family for fourteen years. On October 30, 1876 she was united in marriage with Mr. William A. Coons, and they settled in Lincoln, III. They removed from there to Iowa, and thence to Hand county, locating in Pleasant Valley Township in May 1905 where a large number of friends of the deceased are still residing. Mr. Coons passed away in 1909, and was buried in the G. A. R. cemetery. Sometime after his death, Mrs. Coons left here, and during more recent years made her home at Chicago, where she passed away peacefully. The many people who knew her during her residence in the county, will remember her for her cheerful optimism, and her kindly charitable attitude toward her fellow men, speaking ill of no one. Mrs. Coons, for her age, enjoyed remarkable health, and being a very devout Christian, enjoyed to the limit all the little pleasures to be had in this life. Her last illness was caused by a paralytic stroke, which she suffered in April of this year. For a time it was hoped she would regain her health, and live to a still greater age, but the extremely hot weather this summer sapped her vitality, and she could no longer resist the Grim Reaper. Her last days were made very happy, surrounded as she was by the loving devotion of her daughter and her son-in-law. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and during the years in which she was able to participate in these matters, she took an active part in all Christian work. The remains, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Menge, were brought to Miller for interment in the family plot, beside her husband and mother. Many of Mrs. Coon's friends and relatives followed her body to its last resting place. She leaves to mourn her loss the following dear relatives, B. F. Ferrill, Mina, S. D., J. E. Ferrill, Hawkeye Ia., brothers, and, one sister, Mrs. Eliza Baker of Waucoma, Ia., twelve nieces and nephews and many other relatives. One sister, Mrs. M. A. Parmley and a brother, James Ferrill, preceded her in death. Pall Bearers were Messrs. Peterman, F. E. Saltmarsh, I. B. Whitney and Will Morrow. (The Miller Press)
