Description	:	Mary Grimes, 79, of McKnightstown, PA passed away peacefully from her little white farmhouse on the eastern shoulder of South Mountain on April 29, 2014. Family and friends surrounded her. Born August 20, 1934 in Browningsville, MD she was the daughter of Buck and Ethel Gladhill. She was the wife of the late Ray Grimes whom she married on June 18, 1971 and he passed in March 30, 2007. Mary graduated from Damascus High School. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pennsylvania Cattlemen's Association, and the Grandparent's Syndicate that supported the Adams County 4-H.... Mary graduated from Damascus High School. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Pennsylvania Cattlemen's Association, and the Grandparent's Syndicate that supported the Adams County 4-H. Her artistic expressions were consumed with sewing, decorating, and cooking. Life was always filled with helping people and advancing community. She taught adult sewing classes in Montgomery County Adult Education and then as a farm wife continued fostering those skills to others at Daugherty and Hartley on the Square in Gettysburg. She later combined her sewing and decorating endeavors in her creation of the annual hay bale sculpture, Route 30 Gertie. Much of her latter life was as a United States Post Mistress with the communities of Idaville, Franklintown, and McKnightstown. As a matriarch of the farm community she helped tend cattle, Christmas trees, and a varieties of vegetables with the same zeal that she had for the farmers, the helpers, and their children. There was always enough room at the dinner table one more. Survivors She is survived by 4 children, Ginny Rinehart (David), Willie Heckman (Jerry), Scott Davis, and John Davis; 2 step-children, Linda Rhodes (Mike) and Judy Davis; 7 grandchildren, Jenny Rinehart, Sam Rinehart, Miles Rinehart, Erin Ruth Huntsberry, Jake Heckman, Mark Rhodes (Becky), Marlin Rhodes; 6 great-grand children. Survived by Bernardine Beall and Maurice Gladhill, predeceased by brother Sam Gladhill. The family will receive friends for a memorial service on May 17th, 1 pm at Flohr's Church followed by a reception at the Cashtown Fire hall.
