Description	:	MRS. MARY SCANLAN DIES AT SCHUYLER Schuyler, April 8 - Mrs. Mary Scanlan, 83, Colfax county pioneer, died at her home in Schuyler Tuesday afternoon after a brief illness of influenza. She had been in declining health for the past 8 years. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Augustine's Catholic church with Rev. Fr. J. S. Dobson conducting the rites. Mrs. Scanlan, as Mary Waters, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Waters, was born September 12, 1852, at Jacksonville, Ill., where the early part of her life was spent and where her marriage to Cornelius Scanlan took place on April 6, 1880. She and her husband came to Colfax county in 1884 and for a number of years resided on a farm 12 miles northwest of Schuyler. They were the parents of seven children, of whom six survive. A daughter, Mrs. Harry McNally died several years ago. Mrs. Scanlan's death occurred Oct. 11, 1901. Mrs. Scanlan had been a resident of Schuyler since May 1920. Surviving are two sons, Con and Garret and four daughters, Mrs. Fred Geiger, Mrs. Charles Geiger, Mrs. William Sladek and Miss Suzie, all of Schuyler and vicinity except Mrs. Charles Geiger who lives at Farwell. She is survived by 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two brothers, James Waters, residing near Schuyler and Garret Waters of Schuyler.
