L.C. Smith officiating. Mrs. Hindman was one of Springville's oldest residents, being 89 years of age at the time of her death. She was born at Gettysburg, December 2, 1847, where as a girl of 16 years, she gave first aid to both Union and Confederate soldiers during the three-day siege, which took place there. L.C. Smith officiating. Mrs. Hindman was one of Springville's oldest residents, being 89 years of age at the time of her death. She was born at Gettysburg, December 2, 1847, where as a girl of 16 years, she gave first aid to both Union and Confederate soldiers during the three-day siege, which took place there. All the windows on her home were shattered by bullets, and the dead and dying surrounded the house. Her father and brothers were killed in the war, and her mother died in a typhoid epidemic following the battle of Gettysburg. Mrs. Hindman witnessed the battle of Gettysburg and heard Lincoln's address on that field. Brought to Marion by relatives after the war, she was married there to Thomas Hindman, who died in 1921. Their home was on the Hindman farm, northwest of Springville untiol 1909, when they moved to Springville. She was the mother of David Hindman of Marion, Harry Hindman and Clarence of Central City, Mrs. George Joyce of Whittier, Ada Hindman, at home, and William, who died at the age of nine years. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Burial was made in Oak Shade cemetery at Marion.
