Howard, one of the oldest and best known residents of Piedmont, died at 7 o'clock last night at his home, 4 Front Street, Piedmont, at the advanced age of 88 years, following an illness of one week. Mr. Howard was originally from the Travelers Rest section of the county, and moved to Piedmont in 1889. He was married twice. His first wife, Mrs. Hester Stewart Howard died in 1903. Howard, one of the oldest and best known residents of Piedmont, died at 7 o'clock last night at his home, 4 Front Street, Piedmont, at the advanced age of 88 years, following an illness of one week. Mr. Howard was originally from the Travelers Rest section of the county, and moved to Piedmont in 1889. He was married twice. His first wife, Mrs. Hester Stewart Howard died in 1903. From this union there survive two sons and two daughters, P.A. Howard of Lyman and E.L. Howard of Whitmire; Mrs. L.M. Brown of Lyman and Mrs. L.T. Queen of Greenville. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Della Singleton Howard, of Piedmont and by two daughters, born of this marriage, Mrs. Paul Clark of Piedmont, and Mrs. W.H. Young of Anderson. A step-son survives, Judge H. Singleton of Piedmont. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Susan Green of Greenville and by 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Howard was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church at Piedmont and for many years was a Deacon of the Church. For a period of 21 years he served as Magistrate at Piedmont. He was also a Confederate Veteran and a member of Oklahoma Tribe No. 3 Order of Red Men. Funeral services for Mr. Howard will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Piedmont Baptist Church. The services will be conducted by the Rev. C.W. Rogers, and the Rev. W.F. Gault and the Rev. R.L. Phillips. The following grandsons will be the active pallbearers: E.A. Howard, J.L. Howard, F.P. Howard, Palmer Howard, Clarence Smith and Beattie Brown. The interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Piedmont. Further announcements will be made by James F. Mackey and Sons, Morticians.
