Read More	Wife of George Cook ------------- Mata Catharine Cook, nee Boepen, was born May 12, 1875 in Germany. She received her education and her religious traning in Germany and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in her native country. In the year 1894 she came to America and in 1901 was united in marriage with George Cook. The greater part of their married life has been spent in the community. To this union seven children were born, one having passed to the great beyond and the remaining six are left with the husband and father to mourn the death of their loved one. The children are Hilda, Mrs. Harvey Lamp of Bennet, Iowa; Bertha, who is a teacher in the Estherville school; Eddie, Martha, Marvin and Willie, all at home. Besides the immediate family there are five brothers, two living in Germany, two in California, and one in Nebraska, the latter being the only one who was able to be here at the time of the sickness and death of Mrs. Cook. There are also four sisters living in Germany. Mrs. Cook has been a faithful wife, a loving mother, living for her home and family, ever a hard working, home loving woman. She was a kind neighbor and a good friend. She passed away on Monday night, March 31, at the age of 54 years, 10 months and 19 days of age. She has been quite ill for the past year. In the early summer last year, after medical advice and consultation she was taken to Rochester where the nature of her disease was discovered and made known to her family. For all this time she had been lovingly cared for and up to a short time ago she had been able to be about most of the time but the disease was steadily making progress and sapping her life. The disease, one of the most dreaded in history, was cancer and when she left the hospital at Rochester, it was thought her life could not be spared more than six weeks, yet she lived about ten months. At last she knew the nature and condition of her trouble and expressed herself as ready and willing to go to her Heavenly home when called. Her condition has brought forth much sympathy and sorrow in the community and among relatives and friends. She still had her family, she and her husband were just getting so they might enjoy life together and she had always been such an active home loving woman that it did not seem possible that she could be spared. But though the loved ones and dear friends will sorrow at her passing, none would wish her to stay and suffer longer, when there was no possible chance for recovery, only pain and sorrow in sight. Funeral services were held last Thursday afternon, April 3, at the home at 1:15 and at the Lutheran church at 2:00 o'clock.
