Born in Bohemia, Austria, in the village of Dobesof, March 1, 1845, he in 1856 crossed the ocean with his parents, Frank and Frances Krezek, native Bohemians, and the family came direct to Iowa City, then the western terminus of the railroad. From there they drove to Tama county with team and located in York township. Frank Krezek arrived in Tama county with about $200 as his cash capital, and securing a farm, for which he paid $1.25 an acre, he located there with his family, residing in York township for many years. In 1869 he sold his farm there and bought and moved to a tract of 400 acres in Carroll township. There he resided until his death on November 5, 1875. Michael Krezek was one of five children. He received the greater part of his educational training in Bohemia, and he remained at home with his father until the latter’s death, following which he branched out more extensively in business and made an unusual success with farming and stock raising. He had always taken an active interest in public affairs, always having at heart the best interests of his community and country. He was married in 1869 to Miss Anna Michek, who came from her native Bohemia to America with her parents when fourteen years of age. Twelve children blessed this marriage, nine of which are still living and are as follows: Frank, Oneida Township; Joseph, on the old Krezek homestead; Michael J, Toledo; John, Clutier; Mrs. John Wilson, Mrs. Anna Dragoun, Toledo; Mrs. Fannie Porterfield, Osceola; Mrs. Emma Young, Traer; Mrs. Agnes Novak, Clutier. All were present with the exception of Mrs. Porterfield who was ill with influenza.
