All the children were born in Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa. Obituary The Chambers Sun Thursday, June 4, 1936 Matthew Barnes Dailey was born April 11, 1849, near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and died May 22, 1936 at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Albright August 10, 1871 at Wappalo, Iowa. to this union were born 11 children: Maggie who died in 1874, John E. of Elwood Kansas; Catherine who preceded him in death in 1907; Chas A. of Montrose Colo., Wm O. San Dimas, Calif.; Orin T. of Elwood, Kans..; Ray of Pierre, S.D.; Minnie Verley of Lincoln, Nebr.;May DeGroff of Atkinson; Ida Lambert of Ewing and 26 grandchildren. He lived near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa until 1873 when he and his wife moved to Ringgold Co. Iowa where they lived until 1904 when they moved to Holt Co., Nebr. where he homesteaded near Swan Lake. In 1917 they moved to Chambers, Nebr. where they lived until 1927 when his wife suffered a severe sickness and it was necessary to rent their home and move into a small house on the farm of their youngest daughter, Ida, where they made their home until the death of wife in 1933. He was a member of the M.E. church having joined it in his youth. He organized a S.S. in his home when they first came to Holt Col, but as the attendance grew these meetings were held in the Swan school house. It was during this time he became acquainted with and learned to esteem Rev. P.E. Fisher who officiated at his funeral. All the children except two sons Chas A. and Wm. O. were able to be present at the funeral, which was held at the Chambers M.E. Church, May 23, at 3 o'clock. Three hymns : "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "No night there" and No Disappointments in Heaven" were sung by Harold Michel, Ward Smith and Leonard Miller, with Arlene Grimes at the piano. Burial was made at the Chambers cemetery where he was laid by the side of his life long companion. Besides his children: Mrs. J.E. Dailey, Mrs. Ray Daily, Ben C. Verley, Kenneth and Elizabeth were also here to attend the funeral. He was the last of his family to be called as was also his wife the last of her family. His life was ripened, as that of wheat, and ready for the Lord's harvest.
