Prine was born in Rush Co., Indiana, May 26, 1833, his parents having moved there from Kentucky. September 19,1854 he was married to Hester A Shortrige, in 1855 they moved to Iowa and settled in Mahaska Co where they remained until 1862 when they moved to Clark Co, Iowa where they remained for twenty-five years then they came to Warren county where they were living at the time of his death which occurred July 21, 1900. On July 1st he went to Oskaloosa to attend the funeral of his brother, M.K. Prine who died suddenly. He remained until the following Saturday when he started to return home and was stricken with paralysis: he was not however unconscious. The news did not reach the family in time for them to meet him in Des MoInes, but he was kindly cared for by friends and put on the train for Norwalk where he was pathetically received by his wife and taken to his home where he lingered just two weeks. About two years ago he received a bad fall from which he never seemed to recover: about the same time occurred the death of Will, the oldest son, which was a severe shock to the family and in his feeble state of health a shock from which he never could quite rally. From this union there was eight children, six boys and two girls. All of his children are living except one and were with him during his sickness which was a great comfort to him. Mr Prine and his brothers had been engaged in stock farming. They took great pride in their work and were counted among the staunch farmers in Mahaska Co. He was of a kind, generous, and genial disposition having a kind and cheery word for everyone. He made friends wherever he had a home. The friends showed their respects to the family by attending the funeral from different places where he had lived. Mr Prine joined the Christian church in 1866 near Osceola and has been an accepted and honored member for nearly 40 years. Mr. Prine will be missed by his neighbors, a loving father will be missed by his children. He is missed by the loving companionship of his youth who is left after a journey of nearly fifty years to travel the remainder of the path alone, while his weary feet have completed their journey.
