Description	:	Mathilda Jånsdotter "Mathilda Johnson" was born on April 16, 1852 at Nybygget, Guddarp, Yllestad, Skaraborg Län, Västra Götland, Sweden. She was the fifth of eight children born to Jån Petter Jonsson and his wife Charlotta Bengtsdotter. She received the gift of grace through baptism when she was a day old and later studied to gain understanding of the scripture. She made his affirmation of faith and was welcomed to the communion table by the congregation. She begin working out as a "hired girl" as so many of the young people did. She was the fifth of eight children born to Jån Petter Jonsson and his wife Charlotta Bengtsdotter. She received the gift of grace through baptism when she was a day old and later studied to gain understanding of the scripture. Her father died in 1868 and her mother in 1884. Mathilda left Sweden in April 1882 to immigrate to Minnesota. On November 8, 1882 at Atwater, Minnesota, she married John Levi Mogren who she knew in Sweden and had arrived in the United States in 1881. They lived in Irving Township before deciding to move to homestead in North Dakota. Their home was in Roseland Township, Burke County, (ND) from 1904 until 1913 when they moved to Kenmare, ND, where her husband opened a shoe shop. John and Mathilda were members of the Elmdale Swedish Lutheran Congregation in Niobe until moving to Kenmare; they then joined with the Nazareth Lutheran Congregation. She remained faithful to her confirmation vows her entire life. John and Mathilda were blessed with six children: Ebba, Peter, Gertye, Hilda, Richard and Isedore. Mathilda died on February 15, 1938 at Jamestown, ND. Funeral Services were held at the Nazareth Lutheran Church and interment was in the Lakeview Cemetery, rural Kenmare.
