Description	:	MATILDA ANN (ROBERTS) GILBERT Matilda A. Roberts was born in Suttonville, West Virginia , August 18, 1845 and died June 15, 1919. In 1860 she moved with her parents to Olathe, Kansas. On June 6, 1863 she was united in marriage to Samuel N . Gilbert at Olathe, Kansas To this union was born eight children, six having preceded the mother to the better world. On June 6, 1863 she was united in marriage to Samuel N . Gilbert at Olathe, Kansas To this union was born eight children, six having preceded the mother to the better world. Two sons, John W. of Laird, Colo., and Samuel W. of Kirk, Colo., are still living. In early life Mrs. Gilbert accepted Christ as her personal Savior and to the end of her life maintained her strong faith in Jesus Although her life was shadowed by many sorrows and being a patient sufferer from ill-health for many years, she was still a faithful, kindand loving mother, wife, and sister. Aside from her two sons, she is mourned by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Shafer and a brother, George W. Roberts, both of Laird, Colorado. Burial was at Wray, Colorado. Yuma Pioneer Transcribed by Carol Moore June 1919 Yuma, Colorado ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Matilda's son, John William "Jack" Gilbert, died and his wife was injured when the car Mr. Gilbert was driving plunged off the highway and turned over three times two miles west of Flagler, Colorado. Both were thrown through the top of the car. Mr. Gilbert's funeral was held at the school building in Kirk Sunday afternoon, with burial in Kirk Cemetery. Yuma Pioneer January 23, 1936 Transcribed by Carol Moore Two weeks later, his wife, Etta Gilbert, died in a hospital at Norton, Kansas. The accident occurred on the highway two miles west of Flagler as Mr. Gilbert lost control of a newly-purchased car and the machines plunged off the road and turned over several times, hurling the man and his wife thru the top. A passing motorist picked up the injured couple and took them to Flagler where Mr. Gilbert died within a short time.
