SANDS, 100, of Correctionville, Iowa, passed away Tuesday November 16, 2004. Matilda Elsie was born April 16, 1904 to Fritz and Bertha (Burow) Roggatz in Morgan Township, Woodbury County, Iowa. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa. Services were held Saturday, November 20, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Anthon, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in the area as well. On August 8, 1921 she was united in marriage to Elmer Floyd Sands at Ida Grove, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Danbury, Correctionville, and Anthon, Iowa areas. They retired to Correctionville in 1970. Elmer passed away February 19, 1987. "Tillie" was a member of the Methodist Church at Anthon and a past member of the United Methodist Women. Survivors include five daughters; Mildred Moore and Dorothy Parker, both of Anthon, Pearl and husband LeRoy Schwanz of Storm Lake, Laura and husband Walter Williams of Sioux City, and Louise and husband Jim Gaines of Casper, Wyoming; one son and his wife, Arnold and June Sands of Correctionville; one son-in-law, Virgil Colshan of Cushing, Iowa, 33 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Ruby Colshan, and one son, Darrell Sands, three brothers, five sisters, and a great granddaughter.
