Description	:	Miss Matilda Wannamaker, one of the well known women of Pilot, died Tuesday morning at seven o'clock at the home of her grand nephew, Mr. James Collingwood. She was in her 78th year and had been confined to her bed the past five months, patiently awaiting the time. Read More	Miss Matilda Wannamaker, one of the well known women of Pilot, died Tuesday morning at seven o'clock at the home of her grand nephew, Mr. James Collingwood. She was in her 78th year and had been confined to her bed the past five months, patiently awaiting the time. Her niece Mrs. Dan Collingwood had been with her for the past three months, tenderly assisting in the care of her aunt. A nephew Mr W. S. Collingwood, of White Lake, SD was with her for two weeks before her death. The funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock at Pilot Grove church and were conducted by the Rev. 'Mr. 'McCain. A large concourse of old neighbors and friends, men and women who learned the worth of the deceased through an acquaintance of long years. The interment was in Pilot Grove cemetery beside the bodies of her two brothers who preceded her in death by several years. Matilda Wannamaker was born in York state and when yet in her teens she came to Iowa county with her parents who settled on a prairie farm in Pilot township. She never left home, lived with her parents -until their death, and after this she continued the old home with her brother, Oliver. Brother and sister lived happy for many years, and then the brother died twelve years ago and she elected to live alone. Last February she became so enfeebled that Mr. and Mrs. Sam Welsh, her good neighbors, prevailed upon her to share their home; where she remained until May, when she went to the home of her grand nephew where she was tenderly cared for to the end. Miss Wannamaker was a type of the pioneer, nor did she ever acquire the ways and customs that came in with the changing years; all the old time independence remajned as part of her being; seasons brought in their changes, years obliterated old marks and carved new ones in their stead, yet she held to the ways, manners and customs, she acquired in the springtime of her life. Everyone liker her, everyone was Matilda's friend. Punctual in all her dealings, and honest as the sun, her sturdy character was always an influence for good" on those whose younger paths crossed the unchanging road she so faithfully followed to the end. It may be truthfully said that her life was spent within circumscribed or narrow limits, yet it can be as truthfully said that very few lives were more edifying or as rich in wholesome example. She enjoyed a religious faith brought down from an almost forgotten age;»in this she was steadfast to the sunset hour, and when she died those who knew her best were the most competent to place the just and proper Evaluation on her life and simple honesty and the disposition that never permitted aught but the highest praise.
