Father Henry Rolfes, the pastor, officiating for Matt Crowley, well known Plymouth county resident who died suddenly at his home in Union township, Monday afternoon from cerebral hemorrhage. A large number of friends and neighbors attended to pay their last respects. The pall bearers were Michael Ruhland, M. F. Connor, John Burke, Jos. Considine, John Timmins, Will Barnable and Michael Ruhland. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery in Le Mars where other members of the family are buried. Matthew Crowley was a life long resident of Iowa. He was born in Garryowen, May 17, 1868, where he passed his boyhood years, coming to Plymouth county about thirty-five years ago. He engaged in farming at which he made a success and was associated with his brother, Michael Crowley, in the conduct of a fine farm they bought in Union township when death overtook him. Mr. Crowley devoted his life to agricultural pursuits all the years of his life. He lived in Le Mars for two years when he was managed of the Farmers Elevator company and conducted the affairs of the institution in a manner which gained encomiums in business circles. Mr. Crowley was a fine citizen, self-reliant, hardworking and possessed of good judgment and gained the esteem and friendship of a large number. He leaves to mourn his death his brother, Michael Crowley, and two sisters, Mrs. John Brennan and Mrs. Mathew Brennan, of this county. Three brothers, Daniel, John and Jeremiah, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Wallace and Miss Hannah Burke [sic s/b Crowley], preceded him in death.
