''''''''''''' The Ulysses Dispatch, May 12, 1915, p. 2, col. 1 MATHIAS KELLY PASSES AWAY Mr. Mathias Kelly died at the home of his son living four miles west of Ulysses, on Thursday morning, May 6, 1915, aged seventy-seven years, after a lingering illness since last September. Deceased was born in County Leitram, Ireland, in March 1837, where he lived until 1856, when he came to America and settled near Bloomington, Ill. In 1865 he was married to Miss Mary Timoney who survives him. Seven children were born to them, all of whom are living, excepting one boy, Anthony, who died when eight years old. The children are Robert of Butte, Mont., Martin of Amherst, Nebr., Mrs. Kate Ryan of Mankato, Minn., and John and Mrs. Mary Walsh and Miss Nellie Kelly of Ulysses, Nebr. He also had fourteen grandchildren, five of whom were present at the funeral. Deceased moved to Nebraska in 1880 and lived in the vicinty of Staplehurst and Ulysses until a few years ago when they moved to Ulysses, Nebr., where they have since resided. About two weeks ago "Grandpa" and "Grandma" Kelly, as they were called, went on a visit to their John's home, hoping the change would benefit them, but when there but a short time "Grandpa" became very ill and grew steadily weaker until the end came. Through his last illness, as well as through his former life, he was patient and resigned to the will of God, thinking more of the dear ones who attended him than of his own sufferng, but it seemed as though all his kindly deeds were remembered for he received every care and comfort during his last hours and was tenderly laid away by those who loved him. What made it exceptionally sad for the children was that their mother, who has been in failing health for years, was taken very sick the day before their father died and was unable to attend the funeral and is at present very sick. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Katie Ryan, his daughter, and Martin Kelly, his son, John and Martin Kelly, his nephews, from Bloomington, Ill., Patrick and Katherine O Rourke, a nephew and niece, from Bloomington, Ill., Mr. Hugh Kelly, a brother from Omaha, and Mrs. Margaret Bandola and daughter and Miss Mary Kelly, nieces, from Omaha, and Mr. James Gannon, a nephew, from Omaha. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father Loughran at the Ulysses Catholic church on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. Silently grieving, we laid him to rest, Humbly submitting to Him who knows best, And though he's in heaven with never a care, He seems very near us while kneeling in prayer. M. C.
