Read More	Ulysses Dispatch, July 16, 1936, p. 1, col. 6 Death Claims John Kelly John Kelly, son of Matt and Mary Kelly, was born in McLean County, Ill., on April 10, 1873, and died at his home in Anselmo on July 4, 1936. In 1880 he came with his parents, brothers and sisters to the vicinity of Ulysses where he grew to manhood. In 1895 he went to Butte, Mont., where he worked in the gold mines until 1900, when he went on to the Klondike. After two more years in the mines of Alaska he returned home. He was married to Anna Nihil at the Catholic Church at Seward on January 14, 1903, and started farming west of Ulysses. Four children were born to them two dying in infancy. One daughter, Leona, died at the age of 13 years. Surviving are his wife who is a Past State Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America, and one son John Jr. both of Anselmo. He also leaves one brother, Martin, of Shelton and two sisters, Mrs. Katie Ryan of Mankato, Minn. and MRs. Mary Walsh of Seward. He was honest and upright in all his dealings and was particularly devoted to his Church, his family and friends. His father and mother were cared for in his home during their declining years and his brother Robert was also taken into his home during his last illness. He moved with his family, to York in 1918 and to Anselmo in 1932. His health began to fail about a year ago, but for the past six weeks he was bedfast. The many visits which his pastor Father Keller made to him during his illness was a source of much consolation to himself and to his family. Funeral services wee conducted at the St. Anselm's Catholic Church in Anselmo on Monday July 6, after which the body was brought to the Nihil home at Ulysses accompanied by his wife and son John, Jr., Mary and Patsy Nihil sister and brother of Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Mary Burdick of Broken Bow, Patt Leonard, Mrs. Joseph Downey, Jerry McCarthy, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Crisman, and the Misses Modesta and Marcella Kelly of Anselmo. Interment took place at the Catholic Cemetery at Ulysses on Tuesday morning July 7. Relatives and friends from Illinois, Omaha, Shelton, Lincoln, York, Schuyler, David City, Seward, and Ulysses were also present at the last services which were conducted at the grave by Rev. Father Downey of Ulysses.
