Nov 29, 1900 - Carroll Sentinel - After serious illness, lasting several months, Miss Maud Traner, daughter Mr. and Mrs. James Trauer died last Monday evening at nine o'clock. The little girl, but fourteen years old, earned the crown of immortality by patient suffering and Christian resignation. Nov 29, 1900 - Carroll Sentinel - After serious illness, lasting several months, Miss Maud Traner, daughter Mr. and Mrs. James Trauer died last Monday evening at nine o'clock. The little girl, but fourteen years old, earned the crown of immortality by patient suffering and Christian resignation. Her spirit of patience and faith in the better life was indeed supernatural and inspiring. That here was some invisible influence sustaining and soothing the soul of the child as she languished in a body of pain did not require the wisdom of a philosopher nor the faith of a saint. All the arguments of the future life, collected into numberless volumes is chaff compared to the faith and hope of little Maud Traner who lived in our midst and passed over the dark river of death to that better world in our very presence, so to speak. Could any man turn from the grave of this little one, fresh with the fragrance of childhood innocence, faith and purity and truthfully say, "this ends all?" Impossible. The same power that gives birth to the lily of the valley with the warm breath of each succeeding summer hath even greater power to take this little human figure on the eve of Thanksgiving and transplant in the garden of the Almighty Father, where it will bloom eternally, secure from the withering blasts of a sinful world. And while the bereaved parents bend their heads in sorrow over the loss of the precious little one, they have only given back that which was temporarily entrusted to their care as spotless and acceptable as when received. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from the Baptist church and attended by a large number of friends and Sunday school classmates with whom little Maud was a favorite. Rev. A.H. Dent officiated at the funeral.
