Read More	Osage News March 21, 1901 It is rare that a death announcement creates a greater shock to a community than the dread news that Mrs. Maud Loveless Call had passed into the final shadows. But a few days ago she seemed in radiant health and strength, though disease had laid its heavy weight of care upon her. She was so cheerful and happy by nature, that loved ones could not realize how serious was her condition until the final hour drew near. The immediate cause of death was intestinal obstruction, complicated by la grippe. Maud was born in Deerfield, Iowa, June 11, 1872 and passed away last Thursday March 14. Except the time spent at Waterloo, her home has been in Mitchell county since 1883. She graduated from our High School in the class of 1801. Last June she was married to Mr. Fred B. Call, of Waterloo and the new home was established there. The funeral service was largely attended, and was held at the Congregational church, where for several years she was a faithful member of the Sunday school. The Rev. B. C. Preston, who a few months before had spoken the words of the marriage service, gave a simple and helpful address which he closed with a resume of the testimony of the poets to immortality. He called attention to the fact that the fatalist and poet of dispair says: "I sent my soul through the Invisible Some letter of that after-life to spell And by and by my soul returned to me, And answered-"I myself am Heaven and Hell." But over against the fatalist, we put the Christian Hymm of Faith. " I know not what the future hath of marvel or surprise Assured alone that life and death His mercy underlies. "I know not where His Islands lift Their fronded palms in air, I only know I cannot drift Beyond his love and care". The courage with which she faced the inevitable and her happy radiant temperament is well illustrated in the poem by Susan Collidge: "If I were told that I must die tomorrow, That the next sun Which sinks should hear me past all fear and For any one, (sorrow) All the fight fought, all the short journey What should I do? (through) "I so not think that I should shrink or falter, But just go on, Doing my work, nor change nor seek to alter A light that is gone; But rise and move and love and smile and pray For one more day. Floral offerings from far and near were abundant of great beauty, almost hiding the pulpit and casket from view. The regular church choir was asisted by Mrs. Frank Lohr, and Mrs. Hubbard sang with beautiful expression, Franz Abt's apostrophe to "Tears". Maud had come home for a visit, accompanied by her husband, who remained over Sunday, returning to his duties in the Postal service at Waterloo on Monday, little realizing that ere he should see his loved one again the cold hand of death would have claimed her. Her slight indisposition assumed an alarming nature the day before her death. The suddeness of the fatal attack, the inability of the young husband to be at the side of his dear one, and the shock upon the family and community, attending the demise of so lovely a character, is solicitous of expressions of sympathy for the bereaved husband and family. Among those from abroad who attended the funeral were Mrs. Mary Call, mother of the bereaved husband, and an aunt, Mrs. Graham, of Waterloo; also Mrs. Bird and daughter Carrie, of Floyd and C. W. Stetson, an oldtime friend and co-laborer with Mr. Call in the Postal Service at Waterloo.
